Come next year, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) will be out of Congress and figuring out how to be the next Newt Gingrich.
A Fox News profile looks at how Bachmann is winding down her days as an elected official (they’re mostly spent in her district, getting in some final face time with constituents) and her future aspirations. Though she recently floated the idea of running for president again, she now thinks being a cable news talking head and raking in speaking fees à la Newt is the way to go.
For his part, Gingrich isn’t so sure.
“I have no idea what the ‘next’ Newt Gingrich would even sound like, so who knows if she can do that?” he told Fox News.
Whether you love her or hate her (and there are plenty of people in both camps), it seems as if Bachmann has been around a lot longer than her nearly eight years in Washington. The former tax attorney, mother to five children and 23 foster children, organized Congress’s tea party caucus, was a pugnacious voice on television, and proved a reliable source of traffic for liberal and conservative bloggers everywhere.
